Armand Hatchuel is a professor of management at Mines ParisTech (PSL Université Paris), former deputy director of the Center for Scientific Management (Centre de gestion scientifique, CGS). From 1999 to 2007, he was a visiting professor of the Fenix program for innovation in management at the Chalerms-University Institute in Göteborg (Sweden). One of the first researchers to take an interest in the production of knowledge in organizations, he endeavors to base the management sciences on a theory of collective action that escapes the restrictive assumptions of the traditional social sciences.
Since 1995, he and several colleagues have created a research and teaching program on design activities. In this context, he developed with Benoit Weil a theory of design (C-K theory) that offers a new rationality modeling and captures the different logics of expansion and creation in companies; In 2009, this work gave birth to the first Chair of Theory of Design created at MinesParistech with the support of several large companies.
In addition to numerous articles, he has published, among others, Design Theory (with Pascal Le Masson, Springer, 2017), Les Processus d'innovation (Innovation processes, with Benoit Weil and Pascal Le Masson, Hermès 2006), Les Nouveaux régimes de la conception (New Regimes of Design, with Benoit Weil, Hermann, 2009) and Refonder l’entreprise (Reinventing enterprise, with Blanche Segrestin, Seuil, 2012). A member of several national scientific bodies and editorial boards of French and international journals, he is the elected representative for France at EURAM (European Acadmy of Management). Armand Hatchuel is a member of the French Academy of Technology.
